Move Mashup

Applying DSRP to Big Data and beyond

The four simple rules of DSRP operate simultaneously. You can also mash up the five Mental Moves for increased understanding.

For example, you could approach an issue and ask:

  • What distinctions can I make between these relationships?
  • What are the relationships between the parts of this whole?
  • What distinctions am I missing?
  • What are the relationships among the various perspectives?

How could you apply these to Alice in Wonderland? How could you apply these to Big Data? Or to anything else?

Describe What You See

Now that you have the 5 Moves and DSRP in your pocket, let's revisit this image.

Describe what you see.

Contrast your 'before' and 'after' lists.

How did your thinking change?

Mushroom Nibble

"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." - the White Queen

Can you do six Mental Moves before breakfast?

Back to the Real World

I hope you've enjoyed this trip down the Data Rabbithole!

The Moves and DSRP-483 get easier with practice. Next time you're waiting in a line, look around and apply these to something in your surroundings. The practice is meant to be used out in the world, not just in your armchair or in the workplace.
