Welcome! This website is a guided journey that applies Systems Thinking tools to Big Data as explained through the story, Alice in Wonderland.
Why System Thinking?
The world is full of “wicked problems”. Systems Thinking offers a way to better understand HOW we think. We start by thinking about our thinking (i.e. metacognition). We also equip ourselves to deal with complex situations, problems or issues that we face by using the four simple rules of DSRP (distinctions, systems, relationships, and perspectives) that are foundational to systems thinking.
Navigating the intricate landscape of Big Data introduces us to a myriad of "wicked problems." The rapid evolution and role of technology paired with the massive increase in volume of data not only increases this complexity but also makes data literacy imperative among laypeople. So, how do we effectively address Big Data challenges or any other wicked problem when specialized training is not readily available? Hint: DSRP. :)
We are creators, collectors and consumers of Big Data. Much like tiny Alice having to swim in big Alice's tears, we created this complexity.
The story is rich in images and phrases with staying power in our day-to-day speech as well as music, film, and more. It’s a timeless tale. The story’s playful and whimsical nature makes it an ideal playground for learning. How many times have you heard the phrase say “down the rabbit hole” in reference to an ambiguous or complex issue? Much like Alice's transformative mushrooms, the four fundamental rules of DSRP offer a toolkit, allowing you to effortlessly zoom in or out of complexities.
My vision is that you have mushroom nibbles of “DSRP in your pocket” to deal with the various volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) rabbitholes you encounter, whether it’s tackling the complexities of Big Data, or any other topic, picture yourself confidently navigating through it all.
